Washington, DC – A’shanti F. Gholar, president of Emerge, the nation’s premier organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office, released a statement on the historic Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson Supreme Court hearings.
“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination represents an important milestone in our country and reminds us how much representation matters,” said Gholar. “For the first time, Black women will see themselves reflected in our nation’s highest court–in a judicial system where we’ve been historically discriminated against. Judge Jackson’s presence on the Supreme Court will go a long way toward inspiring the next generation of Black women jurists who are looking to be their own firsts on benches across the country. The future of our judicial system is being led by Black women and today marks just another step in our work to build a more equitable justice system for everyone.”
