This policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit the our websites our content and services offered through third-party platforms (such as YouTube and social media), https://emergeamerica.org/ website and use the content, functionality, products and services offered on or through https://emergeamerica.org/, our candidate training programs, and any other products and services that state that this Privacy Policy applies to them (collectively the “Service”), and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.

This policy applies to information we collect:

  • On the Service.
  • In email, text, form submissions, phone calls, video and in-person meetings, and other electronic communications and messages between you and the Service.
  • Through mobile and desktop applications you download from the Service, which provide dedicated non-browser-based interaction between you and this Service, including webinars.
  • When you interact with our advertising and applications on third-party websites and services., if those applications or advertising include links to this policy.

It does not apply to information collected by:

  • Us offline or through any other means, including on any other Service operated by Company or any third party (including our affiliates and subsidiaries); or

  • From third parties, for example, our business partners including Emerge and any Emerge State Affiliate (collectively the “Individual State Programs”).

We collect information you provide on or through our Service, including:

  • Information that you provide by filling in forms on our Service, or by otherwise providing information to us via email or in paper form, written or oral communications (such as email or paper form) – for example in connection with signing up for products or services that we offer. This includes information provided at the time of registering to use our Service, subscribing to, applying for, or ordering products or services (including training courses and other activities), sending donations, and posting material to the service. If you use the Service to apply for a training with us, we collect a variety of information relevant to your candidacy including your name, address, phone, email address, demographic information (including age, racial/ethnic identity, income, marital status, political and religious views), occupation, education and employment history. We may also ask you for information when you nominate a person for office, purchase items from the online store, ] or when you report a problem or concern with our Service.
  • Records and copies of your correspondence with us (including email addresses) and discussions with us, including in-person or over the phone.
  • Your responses to surveys that we might ask you to complete, for example to judge engagement and support for research purposes
  • Details of transactions you carry out through our Service and of the fulfillment of your orders. You may be required to provide financial information before placing an order through our Service.
  • If you use the Service to apply for a job with us, we collect a variety of information relevant to employment, including your name, address, phone, email address, employment history, education history, and the like.

  • Nominations and referrals, for example in connection with our recruiting of employees or candidates for our educational programs. 
  • We may obtain mailing lists for outreach, marketing, or recruiting, including from list brokers and list swaps with other organizations. 
  • Information that you provide to a third-party job posting site, where we have posted a job (such as Indeed), will be provided to us. 
  • Information that you provide to any Independent State Program is shared with us.

 

Information We Collect Through Automatic Data Collection Technologies

As you navigate through and interact with our Service, we and our third-party service providers may use automatic data collection technologies to collect certain information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns, including:

  • Details of your visits to our Service, including traffic data, location data, user activity data, and other communication data and the resources that you access and use on the Service.

  • To support program accessibility, scholarship administration, and individual health needs.
  • To understand the demographics of our users and program participants, including to monitor program diversity. 
  • To keep track of Emerge America and Independent State Program alumni, individually and in the aggregate, for the purpose of evaluating and promoting Emerge’s effectiveness at fulfilling its mission.
  • For purposes of tax reporting.  
  • To fulfill any other purpose for which you provide it.
  • To conduct research via polls and submission forms 
  • To contact you about fundraising campaigns or advocacy efforts. 
  • To carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us, including for billing and collection.
  • To notify you about changes to our Service or any products or services we offer or provide though it.
  • To allow you to participate in interactive features on our Service.
  • To Comply with Legal Obligations. We need to use and disclose Personal Information in certain ways to comply with our legal obligations.
  • To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, intellectual property infringement, violations of our Terms of Use, violations of law, or other misuse of the Online Services.
  • We display personal testimonials of satisfied customers on our Service, in addition to other endorsements. With your  consent we may post your testimonial along with your name.
  • For any other purpose with your consent.

If you make a donation via the Online Services, your information will be added to one or more of our supporters lists and databases, and you may be contacted about other Emerge America activities, news, and/or fundraising campaigns.

If you join or opt-in to our activist network, you will receive informational updates and action alerts about contested races involving progressive women. In addition, your information will be added to one or more of our supporters lists and databases, and you may be contacted about other Emerge America activities, news, and/or fundraising campaigns.

We may use the information we have collected from and about you to enable us to display advertisements to our advertisers’ target audiences. Even though we do not disclose your personal information for these purposes without your consent, if you click on or otherwise interact with an advertisement, the advertiser may assume that you meet its target criteria

 

Disclosure of Your Information

We may disclose aggregated information about our users, and information that does not identify any individual, without restriction.

We may disclose public information about our course participants and alumni, such as name, likeness, biographical information, election results, and the fact that they took our courses, without restriction. 

We may disclose personal information that we collect or that you provide as described in this privacy policy:

  • To our subsidiaries and affiliates, including to Individual State Programs.
  • To contractors, service providers, and other third parties we use to support our business and who are bound by contractual obligations to keep personal information confidential and use it only for the purposes for which we disclose it to them including, but not limited to, service providers who process credit card transactions, facilitate our fundraising activities and campaigns, and deliver Targeted Advertisements on our behalf
  • To our 501(c)4 organization, WLE. 
  • To a buyer or other successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of Emerge America’s assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding, in which personal information held by Emerge America about our Service users is among the assets transferred.
  • To third parties to market their products or services to you if you have not opted out of these disclosures, with the exception of cell phone numbers. These third parties are all committed to the mission and goals of Emerge America. We contractually require these third parties to keep personal information confidential and use it only for the purposes for which we disclose it to them to fulfill the purpose for which you provide it. 
  • For any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information.
  • With your consent.

We may also disclose your personal information:

  • To comply with any court order, law, or legal process, including to respond to any government or regulatory request.
  • To enforce or apply our TERMS OF USE and other agreements, including for billing and collection purposes.
  • If we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of Emerge America, our customers, or others.

We strive to provide you with choices regarding the personal information you provide to us. We have created mechanisms to provide you with the following control over your information:

Accessing, Correcting and Deleting Your Information

You may also send us an email at contact@emergeamerica.org to request access to, correct or delete any personal information that you have provided to us. This includes previous user submissions or community posts. We cannot delete your personal information except by also deleting your user account. We may not accommodate a request to change information if we believe the change would violate any law or legal requirement or cause the information to be incorrect. Please allow five (5) business days for a response. 

If you delete your User Contributions/User Submissions from the Service, copies of your User Contributions User Submissions may remain viewable in cached and archived pages, or might have been copied or stored by other Service users. Proper access and use of information provided on the Service, including User Contributions/User Submissions, is governed by our TERMS OF USE. 

 

Your California Privacy Rights

California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code Section § 1798.83) permits users of our Service that are California residents to request certain information regarding our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
