Emerge Maine Executive Director Job Description

THIS ROLE

We are seeking a highly motivated, talented, self-disciplined and entrepreneurial individual to serve as the full time Executive Director.  The Executive Director reports to Emerge’s national office and works with state advisors to achieve organizational goals. The primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: program implementation, fundraising and budget management, class recruitment, and support for program members and alumnae.

JOB DUTIES

The Executive Director will organize and facilitate the Emerge Maine flagship training program and is responsible for building and maintaining the organizational infrastructure, including fundraising to sustain the annual operating budget, up to $150K annually.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program & Training

  • Recruit and inspire New American Majority Democratic women to run for office
  • Execute our flagship 6-month campaign training annually
  • Manage and execute logistics for training programs
  • Recruit and train facilitators to conduct signature program trainings
  • Facilitate trainings during signature trainings, bootcamps, step forwards, and other training opportunities
  • Communicate continuing learning opportunities to alumnae
  • Provide office hours for alumnae and network engagement opportunities

Fundraising

  • Direct and execute fundraising events such as house parties, graduations, or woman of the year events
  • Execute all direct fundraising efforts such as donor solicitation, state Cabinet fundraising efforts, regular email solicitation, call time, and mailings
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors and grassroots donors
  • Use database to maintain donor relationships and manage fundraising efforts 

Organizational Development

  • Develop a vision and strategic plan to advance the organization’s mission
  • Build and manage relationships with organization’s Cabinet made up of volunteer state advisors and oversee all, scheduling and preparing for Cabinet meetings, participating in organizational recruitment, development and training and managing all Cabinet members and volunteers
  • Ensure that Emerge Maine is actively participating with our national affiliate
  • Identify opportunities to expand programmatic offerings to support the mission of Emerge Maine
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders in the state
  • Represent the organization at coalition meetings and with partner organizations 

Administration and Other Duties

  • Serve as spokesperson for the organization
  • Database management and candidate/election tracking and reporting
  • Prepare reports and other documentation
  • Send correspondence and emails
  • Manage all external communication for the organization including social media, email, and media
  • Manage day-to-day operations for the organization

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

In addition, Emerge is seeking the following specific qualifications:

  • Ability to develop trusted and effective working relationships with diverse constituencies, including state advisors, staff, donors, elected officials, volunteers and an array of supporters and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to democratic ideals
  • Strong, proven fundraising skills, such as cultivating major gifts, managing all donor relationships, executing events and engaging volunteers in fundraising efforts
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant professional work, experience with 3 of those years being in Maine politics
  • Familiarity of working with state and county party politics and local institutions
  • Experience working on multiple political campaigns, preferably at least one at the state level and one at the county or municipal level
  • Passion for and knowledge of women’s political leadership issues and political campaigns
  • Comfort with public speaking and excellent written and oral communications
  • Effective organizational skills,, attention to detail and efficiency in time management
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivated (remote team)
  • Ability to oversee the strategic planning process, including the development of measurable goals and implementation of the strategic plan
  • Non-profit management experience in some of the following functions: state advisors, budgets, administrative functions, program development and fundraising
  • Fluency with Google and MS Office tools (Docs/Slides/Sheets and Word/PowerPoint/Excel), as well as Google Drive and other cloud-based document sharing tools such as box.com, dropbox.com, etc
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

The following is required of the candidate:

  • Access to high speed internet
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Safe, well maintained and fully insured automobile
  • Mobile phone with unlimited data

Preferred but not required:

  • Familiarity with database tools, NGP VAN, etc.

JOB LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

  • Remote location negotiable (Must be in Maine)
  • Extensive in-state travel and some out-of-state travel is required
  • Flexible work hours, including some weekends and evenings hours

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Emerge offers a competitive compensation and benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, and 401k retirement plan. We also offer an unlimited PTO plan and the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of mission-driven people.  Salary Range: $77,000- $90,000

This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific employment terms are subject to collective bargaining.
