Political Intern

Emerge is fundamentally changing the face of politics in this country by breaking down barriers, opening doors, and creating pathways for Democratic women to get involved in politics. We recruit and train women to run for office, with a special focus on women of the New American Majority: Black, Brown and Indigenous women and women of color, as well as LGBTQ+, young, and unmarried women. Do you want to gain hands-on experience executing best-in-class training for women running up and down the ballot and supporting new pilot programs around advanced candidates and judicial elections and appointments?

Emerge is seeking a Political Intern to support efforts of recruiting and training women to run for office. This individual will help with recruitment and outreach for programs, aid with logistics and execution for our continuing education series, advanced candidate trainings and judicial elections and appointments curriculum. The Political Intern will support the team with research as needed.

The Political Internship position is an hourly position capped at 20 hours per week and reports to the Political Director. The position is virtual and can be based anywhere in the United States.

What You’ll Do

  • Support event programming logistics for continuing education webinars, trainings, and
    other events within the Emerge network and with partner organizations;
  • Assist with training and event outreach including confirmations and downloading RSVP lists;
  • Utilize online tools such as Zoom to execute educational webinars and online meetings with Emerge alumnae;
  • Help manage partner lists and partner engagement;
  • Research candidate and election information to inform strategy and curriculum;
  • Draft written materials such as curriculum, training, and outreach content;
  • Organize and update national political event calendars; and
  • Represent Emerge at political events and meetings, as needed.

Who You Are

We are seeking candidates who are passionate about building a pipeline of women to run for office. The ideal candidate will be attentive to detail, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be open to learning. While experience in a similar role in the political or advocacy sector is not required, a commitment to the advancement of Democratic women in politics is.

More specifically, you will have or be most or all of the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal and relational skills, including competency working cross
    culturally and in diverse teams to create an equitable and inclusive environment;
  • Ability to provide logistical support (virtually) for event recruitment and execution;
  • Excellent research and analytic skills to review candidate and election information,
    Secretary of State websites and other sources of knowledge to inform programming
    strategy;
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and when faced with a new challenge you dive in
    and ask questions as needed;
  • Commitment to working collaboratively with members of the Political Team and other
    departments; and
  • Familiarity with online tools such as Google Suite, Zoom, NGP-VAN and have
    experience with spreadsheets (Google Sheets or Excel)

Salary

The salary for this position is $18 per hour for a max of 20 hours per week. The position will be a short-term role for 16 weeks.
