Staff Accountant

Emerge is looking for a staff accountant to join our Finance Team. This person will be an important part of the team and provide critical support for Emerge. The staff accountant’s responsibilities include maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with budget and close processes, and maintaining accounts payable documentation. If you are excited about getting Democratic women elected up and down the  ballot and helping to support that mission, then this is the job for you.

The Staff Accountant is a regular full-time remote position that reports to the Director of Finance.

Responsibilities

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for performing the below tasks. While these are the core duties for this role, other duties may be assigned as necessary: 

  • Performs general accounting and other related duties in the accounting department;
  • Prepares and inputs payables and processes weekly accounts payable in Bill.com;
  • Reviews all invoices and check requests for accuracy, coding, and approvals;
  • Acts as liaison for vendors, answering any vendor payment inquiries;
  • Reviews and processes monthly credit card expenses in Nexonia;
  • Reconciles bank accounts monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks;
  • Completes various monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and journal entries, including intercompany entries and reconciliations;
  • Assists with monthly balance sheet analysis;
  • Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, and profit and loss statements;
  • Generates annual 1099s, ensuring that they are properly completed and appropriately distributed for all independent contractors; 
  • Assists with year-end close;
  • Assists with in-house 990 preparation;
  • Participates in the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting;
  • Assists with monthly and quarterly budget variance analysis and financial reporting process;
  • Writes and runs various reports within the accounting system, efficiently providing various ad hoc analyses as requested by various parties;
  • Provides day-to-day administrative support for the Finance Department, with other duties and special projects as assigned. 

Experience and Qualifications

Emerge is seeking the following specific qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and relational skills, including competency working cross culturally and in diverse teams to create an equitable and inclusive environment;
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience;
  • Working knowledge of GAAP;
  • Experience preparing 990 returns;
  • Intermediate/advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, etc.);
  • Ability to prioritize and organize efficiently;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred but not required:

  • Non-profit and/or political organization;
  • Knowledge of women’s political leadership issues and political experience;
  • Prior experience with the following software is highly preferred: Sage Intacct, Workforce Adaptive, Nexonia.

Salary

Emerge offers a competitive compensation and benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, and 401k retirement plan. We also offer a generous PTO plan and the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of  mission-driven people. Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000
