Seeking Development Associate

BACKGROUND

Emerge America develops community-based affiliate programs designed to recruit, educate and inspire talented and diverse Democratic women who want to pursue elective office at the local, state and national levels. Our goal is clear: to increase the number of Democratic women holding public office. Our first affiliate, Emerge California, was launched in 2002 where we developed the model and our curriculum. Based on our effectiveness in California, we launched Emerge America in 2005 to bring the Emerge model to each of the 50 states. We are currently operating in 14 states.

Emerge makes a long-term investment in these future leaders through our intensive training program that hones their political skills, facilitates access to potential supporters and donors and helps craft their political future.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a self-motivated and highly efficient staff person to provide fundraising, administrative, and executive support to Emerge America. The Development Associate will work directly under the President of Emerge America, and will be responsible for a variety of administrative and office management functions in addition to their primary development support role.

 

THE POSITION

Fundraising:

  • Provide support on all fundraising tasks
  • Organize fundraising event logistics and prepare necessary materials
  • Maintain call sheets and ensure that NGP is updated with all relevant donor information
  • Acknowledge donations and maintain accurate records of all giving
  • Assist in creating annual appeals and other fundraising mailings
  • Identify funding prospects and conduct donor prospect research
  • Staff call time with the President on a regular basis
  • Work with board members to track and meet their fundraising requirements
  • Provide fundraising support to the affiliates where needed
  • Organize two fundraising calls for the affiliates per year

Executive Support:

  • Provide administrative and project support to the President of the organization; assist in all organizational tasks, as needed
  • Maintain the President’s schedule, which includes handling all logistics for meetings and travel plans, both in San Francisco and nationwide

Administrative Support:

  • Maintain office supplies
  • Open and prioritize mail
  • Answer main Emerge telephone
  • Help plan and execute annual affiliate convenings
  • Support maintenance of agency intranet and computer filing systems
  • Perform basic accounting tasks, such as documenting and submitting deposits, reimbursements, and receipts
  • Create and maintain excellent filing and administrative systems
  • Other tasks as needed


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enthusiasm for the advancement of Democratic women in politics
  • Proven track record of excellent follow-through and accountability
  • Outstanding organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and keep track of multiple projects
  • Ability to create and maintain friendly and professional relationships with staff, key stakeholders, and donors
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable on the telephone
  • Ability to think creatively and work independently
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent web and technology skills and comfort trouble-shooting with technology
  • Comfortable learning new technical/computer skills, as they arise

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience working in non-profit development
  • Experience with NGP

 

JOB SCHEDULE AND LOCATION

The Development Associate will work in the Emerge America offices from 9-5:30, Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekends will be required for fundraising events, with travel 1-2 times per year. This is not a position that allows for telecommuting. The Emerge America office is located in downtown San Francisco and is very accessible by public transportation.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Entry-level salary plus benefits.
