Lucy holds dual roles as the national spokesperson for Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, also serving as well as Faith and Outreach Leader for both organizations. Lucy is one of the Mothers of the Movement— a group of women whose African American children have been killed by the police or by gun violence. Lucy’s son was tragically killed in a Jacksonville, Florida gas station parking lot by a man who objected to the music coming from her son’s car. Her son’s killer used Florida’s Stand Your Ground laws as his defense. He was found not guilty in the original trial, but was convicted of first degree murder in the retrial and was sentenced to life in prison. She has testified in state capitols; she has spoken with lawmakers, activists, universities and community organizers across the country. Lucy has testified before the US Senate Judiciary Committee, lobbied members of Congress and spoke at the White House Summit on Educational Excellence for African Americans. She also served as a surrogate for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Presidential campaign.
Before her passion for public service was awakened, Lucy had worked for 30 years with Delta Airlines. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Virginia State University.
