Read moreAs a champion of public policy and nonprofit consulting, Laura Fortman is a former labor commissioner, Executive Director of the Maine Women’s Lobby and Policy Center and former deputy administrator in the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division. Throughout her entire professional career, Laura has been a champion for social and economic justice. Laura’s passion for defending working Mainers motivated her for eight years while she served as Maine’s Labor Commissioner. Running for Maine State Senate, she is making progress in connecting the issues of race, age, disability, child care, transportation and other community issues with economic problems.
Laura began her career working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Laura holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of New Hampshire and a Master’s Degree in Leadership from Northeastern University. She also received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Maine.
