Read moreKiah Morris of Bennington, Vermont, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 14, 1976, and became a resident of Bennington in 2009. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in Gender and Women’s Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2006 and completed graduate studies at Roosevelt University in Chicago in 2007.
Since meeting her husband, James Lawton, and moving to Bennington, Vermont, Kiah quickly came to know and love the Green Mountains, its warm-hearted residents, and the small-town charm of the place she now calls home. Together, they are now raising their four-year-old son, Jamal, in the home her husband was raised in in Bennington. Kiah serves as the Director of the Alliance for Community Transformations, a regionally based, public health coalition as part of the Bennington County Regional Commission’s Healthy Community division.
Previously, she was the Community Health Improvement Specialist for Southwestern Vermont Health Care. She was the Project Against Violent Encounters’ (PAVE) Domestic Violence Advocate housed at the Department for Children and Families. She is the former Vice President of the Bennington County Coalition for the Homeless (2010 -2012) and served on Bennington County Head Start’s Policy Council (2009-2014). Currently, she is a member of the Bennington County Prescription Drug Task Force (2010-present) and Event Manager for the American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Climb: Bennington Battle Monument event (2013-present).
