Happy Women's Equality Day (But don't celebrate too soon)!

Did you know that August 26th is Women’s Equality Day? Yep, 94 years ago today, the 19th Amendment was passed, finally giving women the right to vote.

Yet, here we are, still fighting for equality on so many fronts.  Pay equity, paid family leave, control over our own reproductive health care… The list goes on and on.

That’s why we need more women not just voting at the ballot box, but in city council chambers, state legislatures and Congress. Only 20% of all elected officials in this country are women.  China, Pakistan, even Saudi Arabia have better representation than us. Emerge America is working hard to change that.  With your help, we are bringing our top-notch training program to more talented women, giving them the skills they need to win, and building a powerful network that is changing the face of politics.

So, today, we honor all of the brave women who fought so long and hard for suffrage.  We salute all of the amazing Democratic women—including 232 Emerge graduates!—who are currently running for office in 2014. And we thank you for your continued support.

Happy Women’s Equality Day! Now let’s get to work!
