Deputy Affiliate Director

Do you want to recruit and train the next generation of Democratic women to run for office? Are you someone who is skilled at training and working with partners who care about getting Democratic women elected and appointed to all levels of office?

The Deputy Affiliate Director has a critical role in ensuring that Emerge meets our goal of recruiting, training, and providing a powerful network for Democratic women. Emerge is dedicated to strengthening the support for our existing affiliates and empowering them to be successful in their states.

The Deputy Affiliate Director reports to the Affiliate Director and is a remote position. Travel, up to 30% to visit affiliates in addition to evening and weekend work are required.

Responsibilities

Management, Coaching, and Support

  • Manage and coach Executive Directors with regular check-in meetings and frequent touchpoints
  • Provide comprehensive state support to state affiliates in the Emerge network
  • Serve as a thought partner with Executive Directors and help them navigate obstacles/roadblocks
  • Monitor progress to ensure affiliate staff goals and objectives are met
  • Administer affiliate team members’ annual performance reviews
  • Lead hiring process for open positions in the Deputy Affiliate Director portfolio and assist with training/onboarding new affiliate staff
  • Bring an equity and inclusion lens to management, fostering feelings of respect, trust, and belonging across the affiliate team and within the affiliate team

Training

  • Ensure a high-quality of curriculum, training, and alumnae networks across the affiliate network
  • Conduct national and affiliate based trainings
  • Develop training materials as needed and assist with curriculum revision as necessary
  • Facilitate training of new trainers and vet new network trainers
  • Overseeing and ensuring the quality of training using a data-based lens

Network Support

  • Build relationships and collaborate with independent state Executive Directors
  • Facilitate frequent contact with affiliate cabinet/board members and development chairs
  • Assist with the facilitation of the network affiliate meetings and events
  • Attend meetings and events to represent Emerge as a surrogate
  • Foster collaboration among affiliate staff and nurture a continued One Team culture throughout the network

Administrative

  • Schedule meetings, events, or other convenings as directed
  • Pull reports and data on a regular basis to evaluate metrics
  • Utilize internal databases and applications
  • Assist with the development of and oversee department and affiliate budgets
  • Approve, submit, and review department and affiliate expenditures
  • Utilize internal databases and applications to manage and support the work of the affiliate states
  • Other duties as requested or assigned

Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience ideally in a nonprofit or political setting.
  • At least 3 years managing a team of 3 or more people
  • Exceptional skills at building trusted relationships and effective working relationships with the diverse constituencies in the Emerge network, including the boards of directors, cabinets, staff, donors, volunteers, and supporters
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative and work independently
  • Proven track record of excellent follow-through and commitment to accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems, from finding multiple solutions to providing recommendations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities while being attentive to details and deadlines
  • Track record of managing conflict and providing continuous feedback
  • Knowledge of women’s political leadership issues and political experience
  • Prior experience working in a remote setting and/or managing a distributed team preferred
  • Experience with Google and Microsoft Suites preferred
  • Experience with databases such as NGP preferred
  • Prior management experience in a unionized workplace preferred
  • Experience with the Emerge program a plus

Salary and Benefits

Emerge offers a competitive compensation and benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, education assistance, supplemental medical plan, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and 401k retirement plan. We also offer a generous holiday plan, unlimited PTO, and the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of mission-driven people.  Starting salary: $99,000-$104,000.
