Read moreRochelle Pardue-Okimoto is currently working as a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Bates Summit Medical Center. Rochelle authored California’s Nonprofit Hospitals and Charity Care Resolution that was which calls for hospitals to put patients before profits and provide adequate charity care. This Resolution was adopted by the California Democratic Party in 2013. Rochelle also served as the Vice Chair of the Human Relations Commission where she initiated (and continues to work on) the Loving Day Project, which honors the Supreme Court Decision legalizing interracial marriage. She protested Contra Costa County’s investment in jail expansion and led El Cerrito in its move to a Sanctuary City. Rochelle is also a wife and mother to two boys.
Rochelle supports healthcare for all. Her background as a nurse has led her to see how broken the current healthcare system is and fueled her desire to fight for accessible healthcare for all Californians. She will fight for universal preschool, make college accessible and affordable and fund California’s K-14 education system. She wants to put an end to the “school to prison” pipeline and provide support systems to those formerly incarcerated. She wants to further California’s environmental initiatives and continue to create a healthy environment.
