Emerge is changing the face of politics to create an inclusive democracy. We are the nation’s premier organization that recruits, trains and provides a powerful network to Democratic women who want to run for office. Since 2002, Emerge has trained more than 4,000 Democratic women to run for office and there are more than 690 Emerge alumnae currently in elected office.

Emerge is seeking a self-starter with the ability to multitask, great project management skills and terrific attention to detail. Reporting to the Chief of Staff and based in San Francisco, all the duties described below will contribute to our mission in an essential way.   • Oversee all technology, facilities, equipment, etc;
  • Develop policies and procedures around technology, systems and databases and ensure compliance;
  • Work with the Chief of Staff on any legal matters that arise.

Human Resources

  • Manage all aspects of staff recruitment and hiring cycles;
  • Support HR functions by managing onboarding and offboarding, training new hires, tracking performance review schedules and processes and administering employee benefits;
  • Manage all relevant operations and human resources contracts including our PEO and benefits.


  • Manage compliance with state agencies for headquarters and affiliate states;

Emerge is seeking candidates with 3-5 years of operations, HR and/or financial experience, ideally in a nonprofit or political setting. In addition, Emerge is seeking the following specific qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in human resources and/or operations;
  • Demonstrated ability to create, implement and evaluate systems that support efficient operations;
  • Familiarity with recruitment and hiring practices and processes;
  • Familiarity with benefits management;
  • Ability to problem-solve and be resourceful and persistent in your approach;
  • Proven track record of excellent follow-through and accountability;
  • Outstanding organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and keep track of multiple projects;
  • Excellent web and technology skills and comfort troubleshooting with technology;
  • Comfortable learning new technical/computer skills as they arise;
  • Ability to create and maintain friendly and professional relationships with staff, key stakeholders and donors;
  • Enthusiasm for the advancement of Democratic women in politics.

The ideal candidate is someone who likes to solve problems and lives for creating processes. We need someone who can jump easily from one task to the next and between low level and higher-level tasks without much ego. They should also be someone willing to learn on the job and possessing the tenacity to stick with a project from beginning to end regardless of roadblocks. We are a growing organization and, while there is a lot of room to learn and grow in this role, it will require a self-starter with a can-do attitude.

Job Schedule and Location

The Operations Manager will work in Emerge’s San Francisco office from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend work will be required, with travel up to twice a year.


$60k and generous benefits package.
