Dixfield Native is Graduate of Program for Democratic Women

Lanette Bryant of Dixfield has graduated from Emerge Maine Class of 2012.

Emerge Maine is a program for democratic women who have an interest in running for office. Emerge prepares women to run for office by providing training on campaigning, clean elections and fundraising, networking, public speaking, social media and endorsements. Members of the Emerge Class of 2012 also visited the State House to shadow women legislators and to catch a glimpse of the political process first hand.

“Emerge Maine has given me the confidence and eagerness to go after the things I want in life,” said Bryant. “The program has supplied me the tools to be confident with myself and to know that I can be an active leader in society, no matter what the circumstances are.

“This group of women is talented, I’m eager and excited to help them work on their campaigns, and for now, that’s all I’ll be doing. I have no plans to run for office in the immediate future,” Bryant said. “Right now I’m going to focus on the present, finishing my degree and starting a career. However keep an eye out for me, I hope to run sooner rather than later.”

The recent Emerge Maine graduate is a Dixfield native and a third-year student at the University of Maine in Orono, majoring in sociology and minoring in women’s studies. Bryant has been active in many political campaigns along with being a volunteer for the Oxford County Democrats since high school.
